The Polynesian Cultural Center’s evening show, Hā: Breath of Life is a wonderful presentation that you wouldn’t want to miss when you visit the center. It runs daily from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Just make sure to book your tickets early and check out the different packages offered by the center. Or if you prefer to create your own package, feel free to do so.
The show tells of the story of Mana, how he survived, lived through his life, found love and discovered the true meaning of Hā, the breath of life.
It starts with an animation film that introduces the characters and slowly it progresses to dance numbers featuring the different Polynesian cultures of Fiji, Samoa, Hawaii, Aotearoa, Tonga and many more.
The dancing, and also the singing, made me want to learn how they could shake their hips so well and so synchronized too. (I’m not much of a dancer.)
As the story progresses, you’ll experience and see the difference and similarities of the different islands that comprise the Polynesian culture.
The show might be quite long spanning almost 2 hours but it’s definitely worth watching. Not only will you see, hear, and feel the cultures of the Polynesian islands featured in the story, but you’ll also see the talented men who ‘play’ with fire.
It’s called a fire knife and it is a traditional Samoan culture. It might be familiar to children and adults who have watched David from Lilo & Stitch burn himself while performing at the luau.
For me, it was the most amazing part of the show since it lighted the whole theater and it was wonderful to see fire being played with like that. Though inexperienced people shouldn’t attempt it at their homes.
When you visit the Polynesian Cultural Center in Oahu, don’t miss the chance to watch this evening show that would definitely complete your day’s adventure exploring a whole different culture.
