Here’s another Little Tokyo adventure! This time, I dropped by Nodasho and had some curry nabe (hot pot).
But before I tell you how full and how satisfied I was with the curry nabe we tried, here’s a quick view of the place.
The bar by the kitchen is a common look for Japanese restaurants at Little Tokyo and they also have tables for groups of four by the sides. You have to take off your shoes when you stay on those group tables, just like in Japan!
What’s nabe?
The term is actually nabemono (鍋物), nabe for short. It’s a term for the Japanese steamboat dishes wherein you have a pot of broth or soup and you add noodles, vegetables, meat and other ingredients for eating.
Nabe is often eaten during colder seasons because it’s usually kept hot on the dining table using a portable stove.
To be honest, we were torn between choosing the Kimchi Nabe or the Curry Nabe, but I was absolutely happy with our choice. I’m a sucker for Japanese curry and it just tasted like heaven eating a whole pot of curry.
It might not look like much but the taste is definitely a winner for me.
Nodasho also offers other Japanese dishes but all we ordered were the curry nabe, a plate of gyoza and plain white rice.
A small bowl of watermelon, or other kinds of fruits depending on their availability, was served after finishing our nabe.
If you’ll be ordering nabe as well, it is big enough for three to four people, unless you’re all heavy eaters!
