Hey look! It’s Dory from Finding Nemo!
Kidding.
Well, it’s the same type of fish but it ain’t Dory. This is at the Waikiki Aquarium near Waikiki Beach in Oahu, Hawaii.
The aquarium is actually quite small and would take you about an hour or so to actually tour around and listen to the free audio tour given at the entrance. It’s highly recommended for families traveling with children because it would not only enrich their knowledge with the sea life, but they’ll also be happy seeing adorable and strange fishes swim about.
Admissions for the aquarium are at $9.00 for adults, $4 for children ages 13 – 17 and $2 for children ages 5 – 12. Any younger than that, they can enter for free. For Kama’aina, active duty military, students and senior citizens – all with valid IDs, can enter for $6.
They’re open every day from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm and closed on Honolulu Marathon Day (December 9) and Christmas (December 25). Special operating hours on Thanksgiving (9:00 am to 2:30 pm) and on New Year’s Day (11:00 am to 4:30 pm).
I love looking at jellyfishes – never swimming with them again though. Their stings hurt a lot, even if the jellyfish is small.
They have this small pool where there are small sea critters like the that small hermit crab my sister is holding. I was too chicken to touch them so I took their photo instead.
Out the back of the aquarium are monk seals! They’re so cute and if we were allowed to go swim with them, I’d hug them. But somehow, they also look so sad.
Overall, Waikiki Aquarium is worth visiting because even adults will learn a few things about life under the sea with the extensive audio tour and interactive touch pool.
