A Twist on Filipino Cuisine at Casa Roces

February 19, 2012

Named after Joaqin "Chino" Roces

Kape Chino? Who's that?

Say hello to this fancy looking restaurant inside the Malacañang complex called, Casa Roces. The restaurant used to be a home and it still has that homey feeling inside when you dine there.

Casa Roces has family dining tables for, what else, families and they also offer small tables for dates for two or friends of four. They also have ambient lighting that can be adjusted according to your mood. Just ask the friendly waiters and waitresses to adjust them for you and they’ll be happy to serve with a wide smile.

Maybe for a alternative, you can request for a seat outside in the garden-slash-veranda area.

Onion Soup Gratin (Php 125)

Their menu consists of Filipino dishes with a bit of a twist of a western style cooking. Although their prices can be a bit high, the dishes served are prepared with care and precision.

My friend, Johanna, particularly loves the salmon wellington served with spinach lemon cream sauce. On the two occasions that we visited this restaurant, she ordered this without second thoughts.

Here’s one of those Filipino dishes served with a twist. A basic dish turned classy. Pan-seared tender beef shanks served with mushroom gravy sauce and fried garlic. They weren’t lying when they placed the word tender in their menu because it really was tender and easy to eat.

Malacanang Frozen Souffle at Casa Roces

The greatest thing about this restaurant’s menu is their dessert selection. They have some unique creations that you’ll definitely have to try.

Above is their Malacañang Frozen Souffle, which basically is a lemon custard souffle with chocolate flakes, pistachio nuts and a very sour lemon lavender sauce. I’m not kidding with the sour. It will really let you make that sour face if you taste just the sauce. Don’t be too baffled by the price because this dessert is better eaten when shared. One person won’t be able to finish it alone.
